Achill Wild: Young Adult Recovery Retreat

A New Kind of Recovery for a New Generation

Young adults often need more than conversation, they need momentum, challenge, and connection. Achill Wild offers a pathway that meets them where they are, using adventure as a catalyst for emotional growth, resilience, and long-term sobriety.

Who This Retreat Is For

The programme is built specifically around the reality of early recovery, the vulnerability, the restlessness, the need for structure that doesn’t feel like a cage. Guests leave with more than an experience. They leave with a Recovery Map, a peer accountability structure, and tools for relapse prevention that are second nature because they were built in the field, not a classroom.

You don’t need to have completed residential treatment to come to Pelagus.

There is no single route into recovery. Some guests arrive following residential treatment. Others have established sobriety through a different pathway and recognise that they would benefit from more structure, understanding and support for what comes next.

Our team speaks with every prospective guest individually to understand where they are in their recovery and whether the programme is appropriate for them.

The Pelagus Method

Adventure Activities

The landscape is the curriculum. Coasteering along the Wild Atlantic Way, surfing at Keel Beach, sea kayaking, mountain hiking, wild swimming, ropes courses, and navigation and expedition challenges are woven through the retreat. These are not diversions from the work, they are the work. Physical challenge in wild terrain is how breakthroughs happen.

Adventure Activities
Adventure Therapy

Every outdoor activity is facilitated by specialists who understand what it is doing to you psychologically. Fear, trust, perseverance, self-belief- these are not abstract concepts here. They happen in real time, in real conditions, with real support. Each challenge is debriefed through an evidence-based recovery framework, drawing on SMART Recovery tools, grounding practice, and reflection circle work.

Recovery Mapping

Each participant builds a personalised Recovery Map across the retreat- a concrete, practical document that bridges the retreat and the life they are returning to. It covers triggers and patterns, coping strategies, support architecture, and a 90-day plan. It is built by the participant, for the participant, and it goes home with them.

Your Recovery Map.

Every guest leaves with a personalised Recovery Map, a concrete, written document built across the programme covering your triggers, your coping strategies, your support architecture, and a 90-day plan. It is shared with your peer group at the final dinner and witnessed. It goes home with you. The work continues from there.

Meals are provided throughout and prepared with recovery nutrition in mind. The accommodation sits within easy reach of the coastline, beach access, and the trail networks used across the retreat. Maximum 12 participants per cohort- the intimacy is deliberate and structural, not incidental.

Programmes from

€12,500

All clinical care, accommodation and the ninety days after

The figure reflects what it costs to run a programme this small: a cohort of no more than twelve, two guests to every practitioner during clinical hours, and a named practitioner who stays with you for ninety days after you go home. The exact figure depends on which programme is right for you. You will be told it before you are asked to decide anything, and it will not change after that.

What is included

  • Ten days residential, with accommodation and all meals designed by our clinical dietitian.
  • Every clinical session, in group and one to one.
  • Every adventure and therapeutic activity, clinically debriefed.
  • A named practitioner for your programme and the ninety days that follow, with check-ins at thirty, sixty and ninety days and a place in the alumni community.
  • Your Recovery Map, in your own words and yours to keep.

Travel to and from the retreat is not included. That is yours to book, and we will help you plan it.

If the cost is the obstacle, say so on the first call. Colin will tell you plainly what is and is not possible, and where the answer is no, he will point you towards something that fits.
